Denmark's entry submitted for the Best International Film category at the 2024 Academy Awards, The Promised Land, is a historical epic based on Ida Jessen's novel. Retired soldier Ludvig Kahlen (Mads Mikkelsen) returns to his birthplace in Denmark with the goal of constructing a settlement for the King to obtain a noble title. His efforts bring him into conflict with Frederik de Schinke (Simon Bennebjerg), a ruthless landowner willing to burn the world to get what he wants. The Promised Land reunites Mikkelsen with director Nikolaj Arcel and writer Anders Thomas Jensen, with whom he has collaborated frequently.

The lead female character of the film is out for revenge. Experimental French director Bertrand Mandico transforms Robert E. Howard's Conan the Barbarian (referred to as Conann here) into a gender-swapped, queer, and distinctly sci-fi reimagining. The fierce warrior Conann (Claire Duburcq) encounters five versions of herself from different universes, played by Christa Théret, Sandra Parfait, Agata Buzek, Nathalie Richard, and Françoise Brion. Lisa, having created her perfect man as Frankenstein, becomes love and murder partners with 'the monster' (Cole Sprouse). Director Zelda Williams takes her first step into feature film directing with Lisa Frankenstein.
