Adam Sandler & Jennifer Aniston Team Up Again for Netflix's ‘Murder Mystery 2’: Trailer Debuts

The eerie Spitzs are back for more action, crime and near-death experiences in a second installment of Murder Mystery.

The sequel's trailer dropped a day ago, featuring the dapper Nick (Adam Sandler) and Audrey (Jennifer Aniston), who are now full-fledged murder-solving agents on another crazy adventure. 

Synopsis: Nick, formerly a New York police officer and Audrey, a hairdresser struggle to jumpstart their P.I. agency. But a crime-solving opportunity presents itself when their friend Maharaja gets abducted at his lavish wedding.

Netflix has scheduled to release the movie on March 31, 2023. 

A sequel to Murder Mystery was confirmed to be in the works in October 2019 after its premiere in June of the same year, with Aniston and Sandler slated to reprise their primary roles. Finally, four years later, here we are!

Apart from Aniston and Sandler, other amazing actors who will return to the follow-up film are Adeel Akhtar as Maharajah, John Kani as Colonel Ulenga and Dany Boon as Inspector de la Croix. 

Joining them are Mark Strong (Kingsman: The Golden Circle), Mélanie Laurent (Now You See Me), Tony Goldwyn (Taking the Heat), Jodie Turner-Smith (Queen & Slim), Carlos Ponce (Couples Retreat), Annie Mumolo (Bridesmaids) and Enrique Arce (On the Line).

Jeremy Garelick takes over the film’s directorial role from the first’s Kyle Newacheck. Garelick’s directorial debut was the side-splitting rom-com The Wedding Ringer (2015) starring Josh Gad, Kevin Hart and Kaley Cuoco. 

James Vanderbilt returned to pen the sequel’s script. 

Sandler and Aniston produce Murder Mystery 2 alongside Vanderbilt, Allen Covert, James D. Stern and Tripp Vinson.

The first installment that saw the Spitzs take a spontaneous trip to Europe received lukewarm reviews from the audience and critics. 

However, according to Netflix’s parameters, Murder Mystery garnered 31 million views on its premiere weekend, which was the highest gross for a Netflix film at the time. It also featured on the top 10 Netflix films list.

Scorewise, the film rates 44% on the Rotten Tomatoes scale (with an audience score of 43%), 6/10 on IMDb, 38% on Metacritic and 71% on Google Users.

Murder Mystery isn't the duo's first on-screen appearance alongside each other. 

Aniston and Sandler previously tested their silver screen chemistry in the rom-com film, Just Go With It (2011), for which viewers commended their gold performance.
