It’s been three years since the first season of Gentleman Jack ended. The second part of the series is finally here after the long delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Set in the 1832s in Yorkshire, Gentleman Jack follows the true-life diaries of Suranne Jones enacting Anne Lister. Lister is the modish lesbian, a landowner, and a diarist who writes down her truth in a collection of journals through a secret code.
Miss Lister departs Hastings with a broken heart to restore her uncle’s land in Halifax, which she had inherited.
Through the mission, Lister realizes that her family land owns a coal mine, and two brothers are embezzling it. Lister falls for a fellow lady and records it in her secret diary.
In this new instalment, Lister is still in her land-owning role. She is now married to Anne Walker, depicted by Sophie Rundle through a private, sacramental wedding. The Halifax community doesn’t warmly welcome the union.
The couple moves to Shibden Hall, where Anne Walker finally gets aid for her mental illness after a suicide attempt in the last season. The couple faces much opposition, especially from Anne Walker’s family, which views the union as “unnatural.” You can guess the amount of drama that’s about to unveil.
Other cast members for the show include Timothy West playing Jeremy Lister, Gemma Jones depicting Aunt Anne Lister, and Joe Armstrong enacting Samuel Washington.
Gemma Whelan portrays Marian Lister, Rosie Cavaliero enacts Elizabeth Cordingley, Tom Lewis plays Thomas Sowden, and Amelia Bullmore impersonates Eliza Priestley.
