Today, Assos is like an impressive open-air museum with its largely unearthed structures. Some of the structures you should definitely see during your visit are as follows:
Temple of Athena
Located at the summit of the Acropolis, the Temple of Athena is the most iconic structure of Assos. Dating back to the 6th century BC, this Doric-style temple has a magnificent view of the Aegean Sea. Being here at sunset is an unforgettable experience.
Ancient Theatre
The Ancient Theatre of Assos was one of the important social centres of the period with a capacity of 5 thousand people. With its location overlooking the sea, it is a perfect combination of aesthetics and engineering.
Agora (Bazaar Square)
Considered the heart of Assos, the agora was the centre of social and commercial life. The stone-paved roads, the remains of the shops and the surrounding columns are still standing.
Necropolis (Ancient Cemetery)
Located just outside the city entrance, the necropolis provides information about the grave architecture of the period. The sarcophagus tombs and inscriptions are very well preserved.
Assos Harbour
The ancient harbour, which is still active today, reflects the nostalgic atmosphere of Assos with its fish restaurants and stone houses. It offers a romantic walking route when illuminated at night.
