American actress Teri Garr, who was nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in 1982 for her role as Sandy Lester in the film Tootsie, has passed away at the age of 79.

Known for her roles in comedy films, the famous actress also appeared in three episodes of Friends in 1997, where she played the mother of Lisa Kudrow's character, Phoebe Buffay.

According to Associated Press, Teri Garr had been battling multiple sclerosis (MS) since 2022. In an interview, she revealed that she first noticed symptoms of the disease while filming Tootsie in 1982.

To raise awareness of this condition, Garr became the National Ambassador for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and served as the National Chair of the organization’s women’s program.
