Best Rap Music from 2022’s Lollapalooza Lineup

The list of artists at Lollapalooza has been finalized! Here are the rap highlights from this year's stacked lineup.

Electro-pop and crass rhymes collide in Ashnikko’s over-the-top stylized music heavy on female empowerment.

Detroit rapper Big Sean has remained a festival staple across the nation since his platinum-selling 2011 studio debut Finally Famous. His records epitomize the slick pop-rap that dominated airwaves during Big Sean’s commercial peak.

This rapper fuses hard and soft aesthetics with his alternation between rapping and singing, residing in the best of both the rap and R&B worlds.

Though he dips into softer moments from time to time, Florida native Denzel Curry is known for his hard-hitting rhymes and the unceasing desire to change up his sound. His Loma Vista debut, Imperial, announced his confident arrival on the scene to most listeners.

Of this list, Doja Cat has had the fastest and most recent rise to stardom thanks to an appealing R&B-influenced smoothness and wise, seamless feature choices like SZA, Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, and JID.

After joining Travis Scott on an Astroworld track, Don Toliver cemented his popularity in the half-sung trap-rap game with a couple of highly-discussed albums in the 2020s.

J. Cole has had numerous chart-topping albums and singles at this point (not to mention 16 Grammy nominations), so if you haven’t heard him by now, you have probably missed out on a lot in the last ten years.

Atlanta rapper Lil Baby started in 2017 but has turned out as many well-received projects as anyone else on this list. His style marks the most commercially viable form of rap music in the last five years.

The aggressive, self-indulgent manner of rapper YG reminds the listener of classic hip-hop but has the edge that avoids becoming too pop-oriented. YG spent most of his career releasing albums on Rick Rubin’s Def Jam Recordings.
