Betting Scandal Involving Turkish Footballer: Interpol Also Involved

Ibrahim Hacıosmanoğlu, the President of the Turkish Football Federation, has made statements regarding a betting scandal in football, following which the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office initiated an investigation. The Prosecutor's Office announced a few days ago that arrest warrants had been issued for 21 individuals. According to allegations, after the referees, it's now the footballers' turn in the betting scandal. As part of the investigation, which also involves Interpol, statements will be taken from 600 footballers in relation to the betting issue.

The statement made by the President of TFF about "betting referees" had sent shockwaves through the agenda.

President Ibrahim Hacıosmanoğlu had previously revealed that out of 571 active referees in the professional leagues, 371 have betting accounts, with 152 actively placing bets. He had also hinted at the existence of footballers who gamble.

Within the scope of an investigation led by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, arrest warrants were issued for 21 individuals, most of whom are referees.

The claim is that Interpol has stepped in.

According to a report in Sözcü, after referees and administrators, it's now the footballers' turn to be under scrutiny. It's been suggested that Interpol has stepped in, and it's alleged that around 600 footballers will be summoned for questioning next week.

It's claimed that the individuals placing bets have been doing so through illegal betting sites in countries such as Albania, Bulgaria, and Northern Cyprus. It's been noted that Interpol has relayed these incidents to Turkish law enforcement agencies.
