The college opened its doors on September 16, 1863, in Bebek, making it the first American college outside the United States. The Transition to Boğaziçi University

As the years passed, Robert College faced financial challenges, with a series of transformations occurring before it eventually evolved into Boğaziçi University. In January 26, 1971, the university's Board of Trustees approved the establishment of an independent university named Boğaziçi University, marking a new era in its history. The Turkish Grand National Assembly ratified the transition, and on September 10, 1971, the campus, buildings, library, and laboratories of the Bebek campus were formally transferred to Turkey, signifying the birth of Boğaziçi University.
