Brazil Bans 'X' Nationwide: Heavy Fines for VPN Users

In a groundbreaking move, Brazil’s Supreme Court has issued a nationwide ban on Twitter following the platform’s refusal to appoint an official representative in the country. The ruling doesn’t stop there—Brazilians caught accessing Twitter via VPN will also face hefty fines. Find out why Brazil is taking this drastic action and what it means for social media users across the nation!

Elon Musk, the new owner of Twitter, one of the world's most widely used social media platforms, closed X's office in Brazil in early August to protest court rulings aimed at removing certain accounts accused of spreading misinformation.

The Brazilian Supreme Court had called on Elon Musk to reverse his decision, stating that the company is required to have an official representative in the country.

After the deadline passed without the company appointing an official representative, the court shut down X nationwide.

The ruling also stated that anyone using a VPN to access X would face daily fines of up to $8,874.
