In 1961, Cüreklibatır graduated from Istanbul University's Faculty of Medicine.

The surname 'Cüreklibatır' is a combination of 'Cürekli,' which means 'fearless' in a figurative sense, and 'Batur/Batır,' which translates to 'hero' or 'brave.' The transformation of 'C' to 'Y' in the surname is due to phonetic changes influenced by the Crimean Tatar communities in Eskişehir, his hometown. Journalist Vecdi Benderli played a significant role in transforming Cüneyt Gökçer into Cüneyt Arkın, which became his famous screen name.

In 1963, he participated in a competition organized by the magazine 'Artist,' where he secured the first place. In 1964, his role in the movie 'Gurbet Kuşları' was a turning point in his career. Cüneyt Arkın was married twice. His first marriage was to Güler Mocan, a fellow medical student and classmate, in 1964. They had a daughter named Filiz. His second marriage was to Betül Işıl, the daughter of a wealthy family who owned a ceramic factory. After marrying in 1969, they divorced but later reconciled and had two sons, Kaan and Murat, together.

In his personal life, Arkın faced challenges with alcoholism, seeking treatment for the condition. However, he managed to overcome it and went on to deliver numerous speeches and conferences to address the issues of alcohol and drug abuse among the youth.

In recognition of his lifetime achievements, he was honored with the 'Lifetime Achievement Award' at the 13th Altın Portakal Film Festival and the 'Turkish Presidential Culture and Art Grand Award' in 2021.

On June 28, 2022, Cüneyt Arkın passed away at the age of 84 due to cardiac arrest.
