Did You Know That Sam Raimi Made All of These Movies?

Hundreds of people around the globe are revisiting Sam Raimi’s films. His cinematic reach is so wide that you probably did not even realize that you watched some of his movies! Here’s a list of some of the most popular and well-known Sam Raimi movies, all in release date order.

‘The Evil Dead’ (1981)

Raimi’s initial introduction to the world was the low-budget horror film The Evil Dead, which summarized the 1970s and 80s phenomenon with inventive scares and special effects gore.

‘Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn’ (1984)

The real reason Sam Raimi popped so heavily onto the world’s radar, this sequel/remake took the Evil Dead premise to comedic levels for a truly wild ride.

‘Darkman’ (1990)

The R-rated superhero/comic film Darkman took the phenomenal Tim Burton Batman darkness from 1989 to even nastier heights.

‘Army of Darkness’ (1992)

Finally completing the follow-up to Evil Dead 2, Army of Darkness now finds the main character Ash in the Middles Ages, as he continues to fight evil with his chainsaw hand and over-the-top antics.

‘The Quick and the Dead’ (1995)

At this point in his career, Sam Raimi started taking direction work for films he did not have a hand in writing. The first one of these was The Quick and the Dead, which saw a gunslinger played by Sharon Stone entering a dueling competition in a classic Western setting.

‘For Love of the Game’ (1999)

Kevin Costner plays an aging baseball pitcher who reflects on the past relationship he had with a woman played by Kelly Preston. This is one of Raimi’s least successful, most poorly-received films.

‘Spider-Man’ Trilogy (2002-2007)

One of Raimi’s most successful ventures was the Spider-Man trilogy. These films reintroduced the world to the famed superhero who made his first theatrical appearance, here played by Tobey Maguire.

‘Drag Me to Hell’ (2009)

Going back to his horror roots, Raimi wrote Drag Me To Hell with his brother in a clear homage to over-the-top, humorously wild horror films from his past.

‘Oz the Great and Powerful’ (2013)

This prequel to The Wizard of Oz was not well-received, with little distinction in the look of the film.

‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ (2022)

The brand new Marvel feature marks Raimi’s debut in the MCU, and his efforts were considered critically and financially successful.
