Lin Qi, a visionary and brilliant young billionaire, had purchased the rights to 'The Three-Body Problem' from Xu Yao. During this time, he benefited from Xu Yao's expertise as a prominent lawyer and appointed him as CEO to lead business operations, including a deal with Netflix.

For this success, Lin paid Xu approximately $3 million in salary. However, Xu's performance didn't meet expectations for the Netflix deal, leading Lin to reduce his salary to $750,000 and bring in additional executives to improve business operations.

Despite retaining the CEO title, Xu was angered by the demotion and not being credited as a producer on the Netflix project, which further fueled his anger.

Acting out of a sense of revenge and inspired by the 'Breaking Bad' series, Xu meticulously planned Lin's murder. He purchased 160 phones and established a company in Japan to obtain the necessary chemicals and test them on animals for his plan.

Xu later poisoned Lin and his colleagues. Lin was hospitalized shortly after and the poisoning was quickly discovered. Investigations revealed that the poison contained exotic substances such as pufferfish venom and mercury, among at least three other toxins.
