Elden Ring has been held the best-selling game of 2022 by NPD Group, a market research company that tracks US video game hardware and software sales. It was also recognized as the fifth best-selling title of the 12-month period ending in February.
This was against the other games released November 2021, Call of Duty: Vanguard. It was also noted that the UK release was the greatest one yet compared to FIFA or Call of Duty since Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption in 2018.
The game’s record hailed as Steam's sixth biggest game ever in terms of concurrent players that garnered around 950,000 that sold more than seven times that of Dark Souls 3. Elden Ring was also the second top-selling game on Xbox platforms in the US, next to Forbidden West on PlayStation consoles.
This was contrary to Elden Ring Director Hidetaka Miyazaki’s anxieties after their launch in an interview for Famitsu Magazine last March 10, 2022. Miyazaki defined their launching as ‘not a very pleasant time.’ Nevertheless, he praised his team for being able to rise above the challenge in developing the game.
Game developers defined Elden Ring to be extremely difficult, yet it feels more approachable than other past games. Elden Ring has been one of the best-reviewed games in the past decade with a Metascore of 96 and will be most-likely the best-reviewed game of the year.
According to Forbes, it will almost most likely be a probable frontrunner for Game Award Game of the Year in December.
