FromSoftware has released a patch update that nerfs an incantation that ‘Malenia, Blade of Miquella’ is vulnerable to, making the boss fight even harder than before. Very unfortunate isn’t it?
Swarm of Flies is a Blood Oath incantation that players use as a special tactic for the Malenia boss fight. Since Malenia has a weakness to blood loss, using Swarm of Flies seems to be her kryptonite. The incantation causes her health to disintegrate over time and ultimately stun-locking her during her first phase.
Now, the incantation has been nerfed and has “Decreased blood loss buildup on enemy,” which will make using it not as effective as it was before.
Malenia, Blade of Miquella is regarded as one of the game's most difficult bosses, and patching one of the most effective methods for making her much easier to fight will really give players a tough time. Following the nerf, the Elden Ring community is already expressing their sadness since cheesing her isn’t doable now.
While there have been many negative comments about the nerf, the feedback for the rest of the 1.04 patch notes has been mostly positive, as the patch fixed a number of bugs that players had hoped for.

Now that Malenia can't be cheesed, players will undoubtedly devise new methods to make fighting her more bearable. Meanwhile, players are waiting to see if the legend 'Let me solo her' will have a more difficult time against his arch-rival, or if it will still be a walk in the park for him.
