The series, starring Lily Collins, follows the fun and glamorous life of Emily, an American who moves to Paris for a job opportunity and experiences a culture clash. However, it seems this is not good news for Paris.

That’s because the show was practically a blessing for French tourism.

Cobblestone streets, high heels, clean avenues, and Emily’s love life, despite all its clichés, attracted tourists, boosted commerce, and invigorated the real estate market.

Naturally, Emily’s move from Paris to Rome has now become a political and economic issue.

According to Variety, French President Emmanuel Macron announced that he would fight hard to keep the show in France.

In his statement, Macron said,

'We will fight a lot. And we will ask them to stay in Paris! Emily in Rome doesn’t make any sense.'

The show’s creator, Darren Star, mentioned that Emily had become too comfortable in Paris, which is why he wanted to throw her into unfamiliar waters.
