30+ Evil Baby Names from the Bible, Movies and Vampire Stories

What’s in a name? Even if a rose by any other name would smell just as sweet, the bullies in the playground couldn’t care less.

So if you want to make sure that you give your baby a shot at being tease-proof, here’s a list of names to avoid:

One rule of thumb you can follow when naming your child is to avoid names that resembles that of villains in popular movies.

Amon

  • Who can forget the vile that Amon Goeth unleashed in the popular movie Schindler’s List?

  • Ralph Finnes did a fine job (no pun intended!) in portraying Herr Schindler’s nemesis that he tops our list of names that should be avoided.

Biff

  • Biff Tannen from the 80’s cult classic Back to the Future starring Michael J. Fox could very well be the most well-known bully of all time. What makes him the perfect villain is that throughout the movie franchise, you see how he affects the protagonist Marty McFly throughout the years.

Damien

  • Damien Thorn I, may seem like a harmless name, until you watch The Omen. Damien in the first franchise of the movie starts as a demon child, giving his mother grief at every turn. His powers become stronger as the movie progresses and kills anyone who stands in his way through bizarre accidents.

Smeagol / Gollum

  • Smeagol is one of those memorable characters that will forever remain etched in the mind. In J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings series, and the movies that come from it, Smeagol used to be a good hobbit, until greed and lust for power took over. Once Smeagol is consumed by his obsession with the Ring, he turns into an indescribable creature- somewhere between a deformed dwarf and an animal.

Hannibal

  • Hannibal Lecter, MD could be the most macabre fictional doctor in the history of film. Portrayed most convincingly by Sir Anthony Hopkins in the Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal, and Red Dragon, this fictional cannibal is pure evil with no room for remorse or any emotion. If that’s not enough to convince you, Hopkins actually regrets playing the role over and over again.

Jabba

  • Jabba the Hut, is a rather cute name when you hear it until you watch Star Wars Return of the Jedi. He will always be immortalized as one of the most hideous characters in pop culture. I would caution against naming your child Jabba, lest he gain a bit too much weight and become the perfect target for bullies.

Kylo Ren

  • Kylo Ren, otherwise known as Ben Solo, is also from the Star Wars franchise, appearing first in The Force Awakens. He may not be your standard all-around villain, but he is every parent's nightmare. A product of the love between the hero Hans Solo and the franchise’s heroine Princess Leia, Kylo shows that apples can fall very far from the tree.

Demon names in Bible

Another must avoid are the biblical names associated with the bad guys. No further explanation needed!

No parent in his/her right mind would do it knowingly, but I would also avoid words that sound like them. Lucy for example can be toyed with as short for Lucifer, while Bob could be connected to Beelzebub- You never know!

Christianity for example, lists 7 demons who represent the 7 deadliest sins:

  • Asmodeus for Lechery

  • Beelzebub for Gluttony

  • Belphegor for Sloth

  • Leviathan for Envy

  • Lucifer for Pride

  • Mammon for Avarice

  • Satan for Anger

Vampire names

A popular school activity is to uncover the etymology of your name, so make sure to do your research as almost every child is curious about their given names.

Here’s a list of names associated with vampires that might seem cool, until your child has to make a book report on his or her namesake.

  • Akasha

  • Barnabas

  • Blade

  • Damon

  • Lestat

  • Marlow

  • Morbius

  • Selene

  • Spike

  • Vlad
