Information About Filyos

Filyos is a town in Çaycuma district of Zonguldak. Settlement in this region dates back to ancient times. Just northeast of today's Filyos settlement, there used to be a settlement called Teion.

Historically, the city was rebuilt by the Romans. As a result, it became a trading and fishing settlement under the Roman provinces. It was also an important settlement as it allowed trade with the interior.

In the early 15th century, Filyos and its surroundings, which joined the Ottoman lands, lost its former importance and declined to the level of a small accident. Ottoman sources refer to it as 'Hisarönü'. In the second half of the 18th century, Filyos, which was one of the rich forested lands in the Black Sea Region and one of the wood piers where the needs of Istanbul and the shipyard were transported, was sometimes connected to Bolu and sometimes to Viranşehir, and in 1924 it was connected to Zonguldak.

With the railroad and factories, Filyos started to develop during the Republican period. Nowadays, it is a very touristic place where sea tourism in the Black Sea is widespread.
