Damlatas Cave, located in the west of the Alanya district of Antalya, was discovered in 1948 during quarrying for the construction of the harbour. This natural formation, which emerged as a result of dynamite explosions, is utilised for both medical treatment and tourist purposes. A 50-metre-long passage welcomes you at the entrance of the cave, and the interior is about 15 metres high. Named after the drops of water dripping from the stalactites, Damlatas Cave attracts attention not only for its health benefits but also for its visual beauty.

This unique cave, situated on the coastline of Alanya centre, was formed over approximately 15,000 years. The stalactites and stalagmites within the cave captivate visitors. The temperature inside remains constant throughout the year, regardless of summer or winter. Discovered in 1948 by pure coincidence, this natural wonder holds a special place as the first cave opened to tourism in Turkey.

The temperature inside the cave consistently measures 22°C, irrespective of the season. The air is characterised by high humidity, pressure, ion richness, and natural radioactivity. This environment is known to be particularly beneficial for asthma patients. The balance of nitrogen, oxygen, and carbon dioxide ratios provides positive effects against respiratory diseases. Approximately 4,000 asthma patients visit this healing sanctuary each year.

With a doctor's approval, visitors may stay in the cave for 21 days (totalling 84 hours), at a maximum of 4 hours per day for treatment purposes. This process occurs in a special section closed to public access.

How was Damlatas Cave formed?

Damlatas Cave began to form around 15,000 years ago. Stalactites were created when rainwater seeped into the cave ceiling, interacting with the temperature and humidity within. The drops melted due to the high temperature and then froze, forming stalagmites. The cave, which was cleaned with salt water, took on the shape we see today through these natural processes.

How to get to Damlatas Cave?

Situated in the Alanya district of Antalya, the cave is just 4 kilometres from Alanya Marina. For transportation, one should first arrive in Antalya by land or air, then travel to Alanya and reach the cave by public bus.

“The cave is said to be small in the comments, otherwise, my expectations would have been higher. It is really a small cave that can be explored in 5 minutes. It is hot inside and you cannot stay long. The museum card is not valid. It is not worth visiting again. Parking is a bit troublesome, but we found a place. 10 TL for a car, 5 TL for parking on the roadside for up to 2 hours.'  

“It has a special place because it was the first cave opened to tourism. You can park your car on the road for 10 TL, but tour buses narrow the road. The entrance fee for students is 14 TL, and 30 TL for adults. The cave is small, but the stalactites offer a visual feast. It is close to Cleopatra Beach, where you can swim in the sea. The café rents sunbeds for 60 TL.'  

“The atmosphere, smell and texture of the cave are very different, but it is not very big. It becomes difficult to breathe after a while in the humid environment. Still, I think everyone should see it once.'  

“It is one of our natural beauties, easy to reach in the centre of Alanya. It is said to have healing properties. The interior arrangement is nice. However, entrance is charged for everyone; it would be better if children and students were not charged.'  

“Museum card is not valid. Entrance in August 2025 is 30 TL for adults and 15 TL for students. Alanya Municipality operates it. The surroundings are clean. However, separate fees are charged in places such as Tersane and Kızılkule. Still, the cave should be seen. It is like a smaller Dim Cave. It is pleasant to look for shapes in stalactites and stalagmites. I recommend it.”
