Born in 1961, Oral graduated from Marmara University's Faculty of Fine Arts in 1985. Since then, his work has featured in numerous exhibitions, biennales, and competitions both in Turkey and abroad. His first claim to international acclaim came when his illustrations were exhibited at the Bologna Children's Book Fair in Italy in 1986. Further exhibitions in 1992, 1993, and 1995 strengthened his international reputation, with his work also included in the fair's catalog.
Oral's ability to bring Pinocchio to life through his enchanting illustrations led to an invitation to the 'World Pinocchio Illustrations Exhibition' in Padova, Italy, in 1991. His work was also included in the exhibition's catalog, further enhancing his international standing.
Beyond his illustrations, Oral is an accomplished author, with his books gaining considerable attention overseas. In 1992, Oral's book 'Böğürtlen Cini ve Sarı Gaga' was shortlisted by UNESCO Noma-Concours in Japan and published in Japanese by Kagyusha Publishing House. His continued success in Japan was confirmed in 2001 when he received an Honorary Award at the 'European Illustrators' biennale for his work 'Duş Kedileri.'
Oral's 2008 book 'Kırmızı Elma' became the first Turkish children's book published on the internet, and was chosen as 'The Best Illustrated Children's Book of the Year' by IBBY Turkey. It was subsequently translated into 12 languages including English, German, French, Dutch, Spanish, Catalan, Korean, Japanese, Swedish, Estonian, Macedonian, and Bulgarian.
In 2012, his work 'Pirinç Lapası ve Küçük Ejderha' was again chosen as 'The Best Illustrated Children's Book of the Year' by IBBY Turkey. That same year, the Children's and Youth Publications Association (ÇGYD) chose his book 'Kırmızı Kanatlı Baykuş' as 'The Best Illustrated Story Book of the Year'.
Oral's impressive oeuvre and influence in children's literature led to his nomination for the International Hans Christian Andersen Award by IBBY Turkey in 2012. In 2015, his book 'Farklı Ama Aynı' was chosen as the best illustrated children's book of the year by ÇGYD.
