According to a report by CTVNews, a blurry image with a greenish hue captured a 'cylindrical' UFO that was classified as a 'suspicious balloon' flying over Canada at 40,000 feet in February 2023. To obtain the image, CTVNews made an information request to the Canadian Department of National Defence.
Between February 10 and February 12, three objects were identified while flying over Alaska, Yukon, and Lake Huron, respectively. The American F-22 fighter jet shot down the UFO over Alaska on February 11, 2023.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau issued the order to shoot it down just after 4:50 PM. The UFO, previously described as a 'small object carrying a metallic balloon,' was observed during one of three incidents involving unidentified objects in North American airspace.
The government declassified the images and approved public viewing. However, this plan was quickly canceled. An email from Canadian military leaders dated February 15, 2023, reportedly stated, 'A photo approved for release is attached. We are conducting research to send you a better one.'
'It could lead to more questions/confusion.' The official noted that 'if the image is published, it will be released via [Canadian Armed Forces] social media accounts. Given the current public climate and statements that the object is harmless, releasing the image could lead to more questions/confusion, regardless of the accompanying text.' It was later suggested that the Canadian department wait for 'the involvement of the U.S.,' which resulted in the photo not being made public for over a year and a half.
According to the New York Post, this statement referenced the Chinese spy balloon program detected on February 4. Consequently, a search was conducted for the debris of the three objects. However, both the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the U.S. ended these efforts a few days later. The reasons for halting the search included bad weather conditions and a low likelihood of finding the debris sites.
