Foals Returns As a Trio After Two Quiet Years During Pandemic

In February, Foals released an album announcement and second single for Life Is Yours, the British band’s seventh studio album. The band is co-producing their upcoming album with three new producers who have shown recent promise. This time around, only three band members receive credit on this Foals album, as they lost their fourth member in 2018 and fifth member in 2021.

Since their debut record in 2008, Foals’ core group of five members has developed their groove-oriented rock alternating between pulsing post-punk and spacious, cinematic epics. Though receiving international acclaim with Holy Fire (2013) and scoring some good streaming numbers on a few singles, it took the band until 2019 to officially make a U.K. #1 album. Foals' two new songs were well-received, though they are not yet reaching the heights set by their past six albums. So far, they have garnered three nominations for Britain’s coveted Mercury Prize but have never won.

Life Is Yours is available for purchase and streaming starting June 17, 2022. So far, Foals has only posted two singles. 'Wake Me Up' and '2am' are beat-driven, major-key songs that show the band in a seemingly more positive mood compared to the ambitious two-part predecessor, Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost. The album is co-produced by A. K. Paul, Dan Carey, and John Hill.

In addition to the new album, Foals' U.K./Europe tour is finally happening after they postponed it in 2020 and 2021. The sudden return is not uncommon nowadays due to the lightening of COVID-19 restrictions worldwide, but the new album and tour, starting with two back-to-back sold-out shows in Edinburgh, set the year off right for Foals. The rescheduled dates begin in April 2022.
