From the Rubble to the Olympics: The Inspiring Journey of Turkish Shooter Rümeysa Pelin Kaya

Reaching the Olympic Games represents the pinnacle of athletic achievement. While the ultimate goal is to win a medal, simply experiencing the Olympic spirit is a unique honor, having surpassed thousands of athletes worldwide in the same field. One such inspiring athlete competing in Paris 2024 is Turkish national shooter Rümeysa Pelin Kaya

In the two-day women's trap qualifiers, the Turkish national shooter achieved 117 hits out of 125 shots.

Although she did not make it to the top 6, her determination was commendable. Born in 2000, Kaya is an athlete with numerous medals. She has participated in prestigious tournaments such as the World Cup and the Mediterranean Games, where she has won many medals.

Normally training in Kocaeli, Kaya was in her hometown of Kahramanmaraş to train and visit her family when the earthquake struck.

Her house was damaged, and she lost relatives.

However, 20 days later, she had a very important event: the World Cup in Qatar.

The national shooter, who did not want to leave her family, was persuaded by officials. She dedicated a gold medal and a fourth-place finish, won with her team, to her earthquake-stricken country.
