Known as one of the most freezing regions on Earth, Yakutistan is a realm where cold weather reigns supreme and ice and snow rule the landscape. During the winter months, temperatures often plummet to below minus 50 degrees. Yet, despite these harsh climatic conditions, life persists.
A young man who ventured to Yakutistan demonstrated just how cold the air was using a simple noodle, resulting in an image that sends chills down our spines.
Noodles are typically lifted from hot, even boiling water. Though it may seem surprising, hot water can freeze faster than cold water, a phenomenon known as the Mpemba Effect. The steam emanating from the hot noodles undergoes a rapid energy transfer when it comes into contact with the extremely cold surrounding air.
Moreover, when you lift the noodle with a fork, the surface area of the pasta and the layer of water on it expands. The dry, freezing air at 42 degrees swiftly absorbs the moisture on the noodle, causing the remaining water molecules to instantly crystallize into ice cages.
