German researchers have announced the discovery of a previously unknown musical work by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, composed in his early adolescence, found in a library in Germany.

The piece is said to have been written in the mid to late 1760s and consists of seven short movements for string trio, lasting approximately 12 minutes.

The researchers discovered the work while preparing the latest edition of the Köchel Catalogue, which catalogs all of Mozart’s compositions, at a music library in Leipzig.

The discovered manuscript is believed to be a copy made around 1780, not an original by Mozart himself.

The piece was performed by a string trio during the presentation of the new Köchel Catalogue in Salzburg and has been named "A Little Night Music."

Its German premiere will take place at the Leipzig Opera. The manuscript has been preserved in a single source and is thought to have been written before Mozart’s first trip to Italy.
