Ramsay recently touched on this topic during an interview. In a conversation with Town and Country magazine, Ramsay revealed that restaurants often use older ingredients to create dishes marketed as “special.”

“Before you order today’s soup, ask what yesterday’s soup was. They might just be selling yesterday’s soup as today’s special.”

In the same interview, he added that when looking for the best dish on the menu, he often consults the servers.

“Of course, it depends on the restaurant, but servers usually get to taste the dishes on the menu and can tell you what the chef does best or what’s popular with the locals.”
