Highlights of Coachella’s First Weekend of 2022

The biggest moments from the first weekend at Coachella 2022 make up some of the most notable few minutes of live music all year! Here are the major parts that everyone has to know about.

This surprise show was heavily attended by Coachella attendees, and Arcade Fire played a great setlist to match. Career-encompassing fan favorites were interspersed with new songs like “Lightning I, II” and the as-of-yet unreleased track “Unconditional I (Lookout Kid).”

Over this weekend, numerous special guests were brought out on stage each night. Besides some small appearances from her brother and songwriting partner, Finneas O’Connell, and popular singer Khalid, the big showing was from Damon Albarn, the musical side of Gorillaz. He and Eilish performed the Gorillaz song “Feel Good, Inc.” along with De La Soul’s Pos, who performed on the original studio version as well.

This performance has a bittersweet undertone to it, as this will allegedly be their last show ever. During this first weekend performance, BROCKHAMPTON officially announced through member Kevin Abstract that their last album would come out this year as well. His tweet simply reads: “the final brockhampton album 2022.”

Coachella is a huge platform to debut new music, so after some small teasers for an impending single, Carly Rae Jepsen unveiled “Western Wind.” The studio version has not yet been released.

Billie Eilish’s brother, Finneas O’Connell, has his own music and slot at Coachella, in case you didn’t know. The amusing highlight of his set showcased his recent musical contribution to the world: music from the fictional boy band 4*Town from Pixar’s Turning Red got its live debut.

Another guest-heavy performance from this producer included appearances from Beck, Trove Lo, Vince Staples, Caroline Polachek, and May-A.

In addition to debuting new songs live (including two unreleased tracks), the former One Direction member brought out Shania Twain to cover two of her songs.

Phoebe Bridgers’ first time at Coachella gave her the chance to sing with guest star Arlo Parks and play her brand new song live. “Sidelines” showed up on streaming services on April 15th, 2022.

Plenty of phone videos with subpar quality are floating around, but there’s no replacing the in-person experience! If you missed out, you might still be able to catch the second weekend of Coachella on April 22-24.
