Highlights Of The Epic 2022 ‘Here and There’ Festival, Led By Courtney Barnett

Indie singer/songwriter Courtney Barnett came up with a brilliant tour idea for 2022. Instead of a traditional show using the same opening bands, Barnett culled together 24 amazing acts to perform all over the United States as the Here and There Festival. Every show purports to have a unique lineup, and each choice is remarkably vital to the indie music scene of past and present. Here are some of the highlights from this national tour!

Now five years overdue for a new studio album, this Toronto-based band made two albums of bright indie-pop that culminated in their effusive hit singles, “Archie, Marry Me” and “Dreams Tonite.”

Confessional indie-pop gained a new star in Julia Jacklin, whose depressing lyrical focus make for a cathartic listen thanks to her emotional performances and music.

Starting as an Americana artist, Caroline Rose invigorated her sound with a pop transformation on Superstar, which details the appealing darkness of fame in a gripping, catchy manner.

This Columbian singer incorporates global music including Latin beats into her highly modernized electro-pop. This must be heard to appreciate!

With one of the best albums of 2021, Japanese Breakfast (Michelle Zauner) cannot be missed if you can catch her on this tour! Her bittersweet pop alternates between upbeat catchy numbers and intimate audiophile music.

Perhaps the best group out of the riot grrrl-inspired indie-punk genre of the 90s, Sleater-Kinney makes earnest rock music to this day, even after reducing their numbers through long-standing drummer Janet Weiss leaving a few years ago.

Obviously, the headliner of every show deserves a shoutout. Not only did her brilliant idea set this tour in motion, but her music is incredible in its capturing of indie sensibility and serious-minded intimacy.
