The most critical point for those who want to travel to Turkey with a pet is to fully comply with international health and identification requirements. Here are the things to keep in mind:
Microchip: A 15-digit microchip compliant with the ISO 11784/11785 standard is mandatory. This is one of the most frequently checked items upon entry into Turkey. The microchip number must be the same on all documents.
Rabies vaccination: Your dog's rabies vaccination must be up to date. Additionally, the vaccination must have been administered after the microchip was implanted. Some embassies require the vaccination to have been administered at least 30 days prior to entry.
Rabies antibody titration test: An RNATT test is required for entry into Turkey from many countries. This test must be performed at least 30 days after the rabies vaccination, and the results must be obtained from an authorised laboratory.
Health certificate/passport: Your dog must have an internationally valid veterinary health certificate and vaccination record. The documents must match the microchip number.
Animal quantity limit: A maximum of 2 pets (cats/dogs) may be brought along by the passenger. Any additional animals will be considered commercial.
✦ Tip: Be sure to check the current announcements of the Turkish consulate of the country you are travelling to before your trip. There may be seasonal changes in the regulations.
