"Star Trek" is an American science fiction media series created by Gene Roddenberry.

What began in the early 1960s with the television series of the same name has grown into a worldwide pop culture phenomenon. Since its creation, the franchise has expanded into a variety of films, television series, video games, novels and comic books, becoming one of the most recognizable and highest-grossing media franchises of all time.

Star Trek: Section 31" has officially announced the start of production of a Star Trek movie event made exclusively for Paramount+.

Academy Award winner Michelle Yeoh stars in Section 31, directed by Olatunde Osunsanmi and written by Craig Sweeny. Michelle Yeoh reprises her role as Philippa Georgiou Emperor from Star Trek: Discovery's Philippa Georgiou reprises her role as Emperor. In a press release from Paramount+, Georgiou joins a secret division of Starfleet. Charged with the mission to Protect the United Federation, Georgiou will also have to confront the sins of her past.

The cast of the new production has led "Star Trek" viewers to get even more excited.

Paramount+ also announced the new cast for Star Trek: Section 31, which stars Michelle Yeoh as Emperor Georgiou. While there are no character names or descriptions, Section 31's 7 new cast members include Omari Hardwick (Power), Kacey Rohl (Hannibal), Emmy winner Sam Richardson (Ted Lasso), Sven Ruygrok (One Piece), Robert Kazinsky (Pacific Rim), Humberly Gonzalez (Ginny & Georgia) and James Hiroyuki Liao (Barry).

Alex Kurtzman, executive producer of Star Trek, had this to say about Section 31 starting filming in Toronto:

'And the race is on! We are excited to announce that principal photography has begun on STAR TREK: SECTION 31. We welcome our incredible cast of new characters who will accompany the lovely Michelle Yeoh on her next wild adventure in the 'Trek' universe.

But "Star Trek: Section 31" is still full of mysteries for those waiting.

Star Trek: Section 31's synopsis states that Emperor Philippa Georgiou 'joins a secret division of Starfleet' and is tasked with 'a mission to protect the Federation' while 'confronting the sins of her past'. However, this explanation leaves a number of important questions unanswered. First, the Star Trek timeline places Section 31 in the 32nd century of Star Trek: Discovery's 32nd century, as the dying Georgiou is sent away by the Guardian of Forever (Paul Guilfoyle) to save his life in the 32nd century.

Many questions arise about Emperor Georgiou's next adventure.

Also, Georgiou was already a member of Section 31 in the 23rd century and Guardian of Forever sent Phillipa back to the Mirror Universe in Season 3 of Star Trek: Discovery's season 3 sent Phillipa back to the Mirror Universe to assess whether she had indeed changed. How Section 31 will deepen Georgiou's story is not yet known and the answers to these questions are eagerly awaited.

Star Trek: Section 31's cast of 7 new actors is not known which characters they will play, but fans may be disappointed that Georgiou is only surrounded by new characters.

Section 31 features a number of characters who were part of this secret organization in different eras of Star Trek. However, Alex Kurtzman's characterization of Section 31 as 'a wild adventure in the Trek universe' suggests that characters from the Star Trek legacy, such as Dr. Julian Bashir (Alexander Siddig) from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's Dr. Julian Bashir (Alexander Siddig) or Star Trek: Discovery's Ash Tyler (Shazad Latif), could make cameos in Section 31. Presumably, since Michelle Yeoh believes so much in this project, she's willing, as an Oscar winner, to make sure Star Trek: Section 31, it's safe to assume that Emperor Georgiou's long-awaited return will be something special.
