John Boorman’s Classic Thriller Film ‘Deliverance’ (1972) Drops Netflix in July – Release Date and More!

Outdoor enthusiast Lewis Medlock leads his buddies on a canoe expedition they'll never forget into the perilous American backcountry with the goal of viewing the Cahulawassee River before it is dammed and transformed into a lake.

The 1972 American survival thriller film 'Deliverance' is produced and directed by John Boorman. James Dickey adapted his 1970 novel of the same name into a screenplay. The film stars Jon Voight, Burt Reynolds, Ned Beatty, and Ronny Cox.

Four friends from the city (Jon Voight, Burt Reynolds, Ned Beatty, and Ronny Cox) make the decision to leave their jobs, families, and kids behind for a week of canoeing in rural Georgia. 

The men are not welcomed by the locals, who chase after them and savagely attack them when they finally find them in the woods. 

After the ambush, the comrades attempt to return home but are obstructed by dangerous rapids and are being pursued by a crazy person. Their boat trip swiftly devolves into a struggle for survival.

Ned Beatty's wife, Belinda Beatty, and director John Boorman's son, Charley Boorman, have brief appearances as the wife and young child of Jon Voight's character.

Five Golden Globe Award nominations and three Academy Award nominations were received for the box office and critical success of the movie.

‘Deliverance’ will be available to stream on Netflix on Friday, July 1, 2022.
