Preparations have begun for the romantic film "The History of Sound," directed by Oliver Hermanus and adapted from an award-winning short story.

Produced by End Cue, the story revolves around two young men named Lionel and David embarking on a journey during World War I to record the lives, sounds, and music of their fellow citizens.

The official synopsis of the film reads: "During a brief period in their young lives, as they explore the epic landscapes of America, both men undergo profound changes."

"The History of Sound" is adapted from the Pushcart Prize-winning short story of the same name by American writer Ben Shattuck.

Hermanus commented on the project, saying:

'I instantly fell in love with Ben Shattuck's flawlessly beautiful short story and knew I had to be part of its journey to the big screen. Paul and Josh are two of the most promising actors of their generation, and they will deliver deeply emotional performances. This is an unexpected love story that needs to be told, a journey seen through the bond between two men immersed in American folk music traditions and sound history. This incredibly powerful story will resonate with audiences worldwide.'

Principal filming is set to take place primarily in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Italy.
