'The Crown' star and recent Emmy winner Josh O'Connor and BAFTA-winning actor Paul Mescal are gearing up to star in the same project. Directed by Oliver Hermanus and adapted from an award-winning short story, 'The History of Sound' is already in preparation. The story follows two young men named Lionel and David, who embark on a journey during World War I to record the lives, sounds, and music of their fellow citizens. With filming set to take place primarily in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Italy, the movie promises a poignant love story intertwined with American folk music traditions and a deep dive into sound history.

Preparations have begun for the romantic film "The History of Sound," directed by Oliver Hermanus and adapted from an award-winning short story.

Produced by End Cue, the story revolves around two young men named Lionel and David embarking on a journey during World War I to record the lives, sounds, and music of their fellow citizens.

The official synopsis of the film reads: "During a brief period in their young lives, as they explore the epic landscapes of America, both men undergo profound changes."

"The History of Sound" is adapted from the Pushcart Prize-winning short story of the same name by American writer Ben Shattuck.

Hermanus commented on the project, saying:

'I instantly fell in love with Ben Shattuck's flawlessly beautiful short story and knew I had to be part of its journey to the big screen. Paul and Josh are two of the most promising actors of their generation, and they will deliver deeply emotional performances. Principal filming is set to take place primarily in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Italy.
