Marvel Parts Ways with Jonathan Majors Following Guilty Verdict in Harassment and Assault Case

Jonathan Majors, known for his role as Kang the Conqueror in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has been found guilty in a court case involving harassment and assault allegations. As a result of the verdict, Marvel has terminated its contract with Majors, prompting Disney and Marvel to reevaluate their agreements and make adjustments to upcoming film projects.

Allegations and Legal Proceedings

The legal issues surrounding Jonathan Majors began in March 2023 following a 911 call from a New York apartment. Subsequently, Majors was arrested by the New York Police Department, and after a two-week trial, he was found guilty of two counts of harassment and assault.

While Majors was convicted on two charges, he was acquitted of third-degree intentional assault and second-degree aggravated harassment. The outcome of the trial led to Marvel severing ties with the actor.

Marvel Cinematic Roles

Prior to the legal troubles, Jonathan Majors gained recognition for his portrayal of Kang the Conqueror in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, featuring prominently in both seasons of the 'Loki' series and the upcoming film 'Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.' He was also slated for a significant role in the anticipated film 'Avengers: The Kang Dynasty,' expected to be released in May 2026.

Impact on Marvel Projects

In response to these developments, Disney and Marvel are adjusting their plans for upcoming film projects. Michael Waldron, the writer of 'Loki,' is reportedly working on a new screenplay for 'Avengers 5' (also known as 'Kang Dynasty'), indicating a significant revision to the film.
