A sweeping investigation has been launched in the USA, following allegations of interference in at least 29 matches in the NCAA, the premier league of university basketball. In the prepared indictment, it is claimed that 15 out of 20 suspects allegedly collaborated with a criminal organization in exchange for bribes, with the intention of influencing match outcomes.
US prosecutors have initiated an investigation into allegations that numerous games within the American College Basketball League (NCAA) have been rigged by gamblers in collusion with certain players. The indictment prepared by the US Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania suggests that the suspects, who allegedly worked in tandem with the players in NCAA men's basketball, have manipulated the outcome of at least 29 matches.
The indictment contains serious allegations under the umbrella of 'bribery and electronic fraud conspiracy'. It was noted that the athletes, who are alleged to be involved in match-fixing, have played for basketball teams at numerous universities across the United States, including Tulane, DePaul, Fordham, and St. Louis. It is reported that out of the 20 suspects mentioned in the dossier, 15 are accused of colluding with a criminal organization in exchange for bribes with the intent to manipulate match outcomes. Some of these individuals are currently playing for these university teams, while others have done so in the past.
The prosecutor's indictment asserts that the suspected betting ring did not limit itself to NCAA matches, but also targeted professional basketball games played in China. The file reveals that not only former NCAA players such as Kevin Cross, Markeese Hastings, Cedquavious Hunter, Oumar Koureissi, Da’Sean Nelson, Demond Robinson, Camian Shell, Dyquavion Short, Alberto Laureano, Arlando Arnold, Simeon Cottle, Bradley Ezewiro, Shawn Fulcher, Carlos Hart, Jalen Terry, and Airion Simmons were implicated, but also coaches Jalen Smith and Roderick Winkle were named.
