In 2013, Megan was a student in Prairie View A&M University when she first gained attention from the public by uploading videos of herself on social media, particularly Instagram, wherein she raps in freestyle. But what made her gain a following was when she battled against male rappers in a cypher. She continuously uploaded videos of her freestyle rapping while she was in university and that paved a way for her career.
She made her commercial debut in 2017 by releasing her Make It Hot EP. The EP’s single, “Last Week in HTx” became the most popular track in the EP and gathered several million views on YouTube. Finally, in 2018, she signed with 1501 Certified Entertainment but then transferred to 300 Entertainment in 2019. In that same year, Megan released the song “Big Ole Freak” and it entered the 99th spot in the Billboard 100, making it her first chart entry in the entirety of her career. Since then, she has released hit after hit, and even collaborated with singer-rapper Nicki Minaj for her song “Hot Girl Summer”.
Because of her fame, it is no denying that she already had a lot of collaborations. She even had a performance with K-pop sensation BTS for the remix of “Butter” which absolutely made Megan Thee Stallion more famous than she already is.
Megan Thee Stallion was also named in the 'Time 100 Next” list so she is certainly someone to look out for. Aside from being in Time’s list, Megan is no longer a newbie when it comes to awards. In the 2021 American Music Awards, she bagged home three awards, making her tie with Doja Cat and BTS.
Just very recently, Megan Thee Stallion teased that she has a new song to be released in March 2022 with English singer Dua Lipa.
