A simple school assignment turned into a heartwarming story spanning decades! Twenty-six years ago, a young girl named Makenzie Van Eyk wrote a letter, sealed it in a bottle, and cast it into a lake as part of her class project. Little did she know, this whimsical gesture would resurface decades later and reconnect her with her past. Who discovered the bottle, and how did it find its way back to Makenzie after all these years? The story is as magical as it sounds—read on to uncover the details!

In 1998, Makenzie Van Eyk, then an elementary school student, wrote a letter as part of a class assignment and placed it inside a bottle.

All her classmates also wrote letters and put them in bottles. Later, just like in the movies, the bottles were released into a nearby lake.

Makenzie Van Eyk's letter resurfaced 26 years later and found its way back to her!

In the time since, Makenzie had grown up, gotten married, and become a mother. Yet, she never forgot what she had written in that letter. Remarkably, after 26 years, the letter in the bottle mysteriously returned to her.

The letter written 26 years ago was found by one of her daughter’s school friends.

One morning, Van Eyk received a call from her daughter’s school. Expecting it to be about her daughter's school matters, she was surprised to hear, 'We found a letter you wrote years ago. We thought you’d want to know.'

The young child had brought the letter to school, where the teachers read it aloud in class.

Coincidentally, among the students was the daughter of the letter’s original writer. This extraordinary event helped St. Pierre School achieve its main goal: teaching students about the severe consequences of plastic pollution!
