Montenegro to Suspend Visa-Free Travel for Turkish Citizens

Turkish citizens used to be able to travel to the Balkan country of Montenegro without a visa for up to 90 days. However, Montenegro's Prime Minister Milojko Spajic recently announced that they are preparing to suspend this visa-free privilege for Turkish citizens.

In recent days, following the stabbing of a Montenegrin citizen by two Turkish individuals, protests were organized and incidents broke out in neighborhoods heavily populated by Turkish residents. It has been reported that 45 Turkish citizens were taken into custody.

Montenegro is one of the top countries preferred by Turkish citizens for vacation.

Due to the visa-free regime implemented between the two countries, Turkish citizens can enter the country without a visa for up to 90 days. The Montenegrin police announced that there are a total of 13,300 Turkish citizens in the country.

Montenegrin Prime Minister Milojko Spajic, on the other hand, stated that they will suspend the visa-free regime applied to Turkish citizens. Making a statement on his social media account, Spajic said, 'We will make a decision to temporarily suspend visa-free entry for citizens of the Republic of Turkey under an emergency procedure.'

Protests were staged in the country following an incident involving two Turkish citizens.

Following the stabbing of a Montenegrin citizen, two Turkish individuals were detained. Subsequent unrest erupted in areas heavily populated by Turks, accompanied by the chanting of racially charged slogans against them.

According to a statement from the Montenegrin police, the two Turkish individuals involved in the incident were deported from the country. It was also claimed that a total of 45 people were detained due to the disturbances in Turkish neighborhoods.
