Amid the New Year blues comes a silver lining!
At least Netflix subscribers have something to shout about after Netflix confirmed on January 26 2023, a renewal of the spy action series The Recruit starring Noah Centineo for a second season.
The good news comes after the streaming platform's latest gross trend to axe its new series. Projects like Uncoupled, 1899, First Kill and The Witcher: Blood Origin are some recent shows to meet their unexpected end after only one season.
The Recruit follows a rooky CIA attorney Owen Hendricks portrayed by Centineo, who finds himself in the middle of international conflicts involving criminal parties.
His romantic involvement with an asset puts him at risk as she threatens to expose their relationship.
The series premiered on December 16 last year, with eight episodes.
Besides Centineo, The Recruit hosts the primary casts Laura Haddock as Max Meladze, Aarti Mann as Violet, Colton Dunn as Lester, Fivel Stewart as Hannah, Daniel Quincy Annoh as Terence, Kristian Bruun as Janus Ferber and Vondie Curtis-Hall as Walter Nyland.
Centineo, who is also an executive producer, expressed his pleasure in the show's story continual. He stated, 'I know I speak for our entire cast and executive team at eOne and Netflix when I say that we are thrilled to be returning to The Recruit for a second season. I’m looking forward to seeing what Alexi Hawley (the show’s creator) has in store for us all.”
Hawley, who also serves as The Recruit's executive producer and showrunner, issued a statement as well. He said, 'I'm thrilled to dive back into the fun, funny, action-packed world of The Recruit. Seeing how invested our audience became in the show's adventurous take on the spy world and Noah's turn as Owen has been incredibly rewarding, and I can't wait to turn it all up to '11' in season two.'
The first season of The Recruit has received favorable reviews, rating 96% on Google Users and 7.1/10 on IMDb.
The audience has also rewarded the series a high score of 86% on Rotten Tomatoes, with the critics’ bar trailing slightly at 67%.
