The building where the Pera Museum operates, located in the Beyoglu district of Istanbul, began operating in 2005 by preserving the facade of the Bristol Hotel building, designed by architect Achille Manoussos in 1893.
The purpose of this museum is to exhibit the collections of “Orientalist Painting”, “Anatolian Weights and Measures” and “Kütahya Tiles and Ceramics” belonging to the Suna and Inan Kıraç Foundation to the next generations.
Pera Museum, located in one of the most lively areas of the city, attracts attention with its Collection of Orientalist Paintings, which contains more than three hundred works. The collection includes works by European orientalists from the seventeenth century to the nineteenth century.
The fact that they are painters influenced by Ottoman culture is a common feature of these orientalists. At the same time, there is also a Turtle Tamer painting in the Pera Museum.
