Prime Video Adds ‘The Sixth Sense’ (1999) to its Back Catalogue This Month

Sadly, the 67-year-old Bruce Willis will be stepping away from acting after decades of a successful career due to his recent aphasia diagnosis. Aphasia is a rare medical condition that inhibits one's ability to speak, read or write. 

However, you can reminiscence about the icon's hay days with this 1999 psychological thriller film, The Sixth Sense, which was the second-highest-grossing film of the year and a personal favorite of mine. 

With a stream of classic movies of different genres including Blow Out (1981), Good Morning, Vietnam (1987), Dirty Dancing (1987), Carrie (1976), and many more, Prime Video's latest additions are enough to keep you indoors the whole weekend.

Set in Philadelphia, Malcolm Crowe (Bruce Willis), a child psychologist, goes home at night with his wife Anna to pop champagne in celebration of his work being recognized. The evening quickly goes sour as a disturbed former psychiatric patient Vincent Grey shoots Malcom and himself, leaving Anna in distress. 

We are then taken to Cole Sear, a 9-year-old boy who lives with his mom Lynn Sear. Malcolm has been assigned to work with the boy, given that his case resembles that of Vincent's. Cole has never told anyone that he sees dead people, and after sharing this with Malcolm, the psychologist tries to figure out why the dead appear to Cole. A shocking revelation happens at the end that gets me every time I watch this film.

Some notable cast mentions alongside Willis include Toni Collette as Lynn Sear, Haley Joel Osment as Cole Sear, Olivia Williams as Anna Crowe, M. Night Shyamalan as Dr Hill, Donnie Wahlberg as Vincent Grey, Glenn Fitzgerald as Sean and Bruce Norris as Mr Stanley Cunningham.

The Sixth Sense has a slow but intense build and everything is premeditatively crafted, down to the red doorknob, red bulb, red balloon, red sweater… just look it up! There's a reason why Shyamalan, the movie's writer and director, chose red and not any other color. 

With an audience likeability of 91%, in my opinion, The Sixth Sense is one of the best psychological thriller films of all time and the highlight of Willis' career.

In light of Willis’ shocking career end, the once 9-year-old adorable Osment shared his sentiments on Twitter for getting the chance to know his role model in person and expressed his admiration for him and his family.
