The 74th Berlin Film Festival took place in the capital of Germany from February 15 to 25, 2024. The festival made headlines not only for its awards but also for the prominent protests that unfolded.

The festival organizers initially invited the far-right political party AfD to the festival in Germany, later retracting the invitation. In response, approximately 50 individuals from the film industry protested with slogans advocating for democracy on the opening night of the festival.

This wasn't the sole protest at the 74th Berlin Film Festival. Former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, present in Berlin for an event organized by Cinema for Peace, faced protests due to the U.S. support for Israel.

As protests continued outside during the 10-day festival, the jury inside selected the best of the year. The documentary "Dahomey" was awarded the Best Film at the 74th Berlin Film Festival. Director Mati Diop, of Senegalese origin and based in France, made a notable speech in support of Palestine.

The Best Documentary Award went to "No Other Land," addressing Palestinians in the West Bank whose lands are occupied by Israel.

During the award acceptance, co-directors Basel Adra, a Palestinian activist, and Israeli journalist Yuval Abraham called on Germany to immediately halt arms shipments to Israel.
