Schmigadoon! Renewal: Here's All We Know About One of the Best Shows on Apple TV+

First and foremost, I must admit that I am a major fan of musicals. So, when Apple TV+, which already has a sizable library of entertainment, introduced Schmigadoon! I had high hopes for, a six-episode musical comedy series. 'Schmigadoon!' on Apple TV+ was one of the big TV surprises of 2021. ' – a comedy series about a couple who accidentally discovers a village within a musical. Cinco Paul, the show's creator, is glad to keep making more episodes as long as it remains quirky, odd, and amusing.

Paul took his time bringing 'Schmigadoon!' ' to bring life. For the last 25 years, the concept had been lingering in his mind. He got the idea while viewing the 1981 horror comedy 'An American Werewolf in London,' which starts with two travellers stumbling across a werewolf-ravaged village. 'What if two modern individuals happened across a town that was in a musical?' Paul mused after noticing the film's start was comparable to the 1947 musical 'Brigadoon.'

But that was the end of it. Paul didn't know what to do with the concept until 2021, when he had the brilliant idea of replacing the two male travelers with a couple, one of whom despises musicals and the other who adores them.

'I believe we should all be optimistic.' Regarding the prospect of a Season 2 renewal, Paul told TheWrap, 'I'm hopeful.' 'I haven't received a response yet.' However, I would appreciate everyone's optimistic, hopeful vibe. Because, as I've previously stated, I've always envisioned this as being more than one season.'

The cast is strong, and their previous theatre and Broadway experience comes in helpful as they fly through the numerous numbers with ease. Melissa, played by Cecily Strong, is a dreamer with her nose in the air who is always seeking for the 'ideal relationship,' while Josh, played by Keegan-Michael Key, stands his ground as the level-headed, practical lover who doesn't believe in musicals.

Kirstin Chenoweth, Alan Cumming, Jane Krakowski, Dove Cameron, Aaron Tveit, and others round out the supporting cast. Paul realizes how fortunate he was to acquire everyone; he even joked that he 'felt like a kid in a candy shop.'

Many of the characters in 'Schmigadoon!' were written specifically for their stars. As they imagined the preacher's wife, Mildred Layton, Chenoweth's picture hung in the writer's chamber. Similarly, The Countess, and Doc Lopez (a remake of Captain Von Trapp from the same musical) were created with Krakowski and Jaime Camil in mind.

As a result, Paul crafted the show's original songs, all of which he penned, with the performers' vocal abilities in mind. He made sure to push his performers, especially Chenoweth, who Paul believes had a challenging character to play but rose to the occasion. They've paid off handsomely. “Schmigadoon! ', along with the soundtracks to 'One Night in Miami,' 'Respect,' 'Dear Evan Hansen,' and other films, received a Grammy nomination for Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media in 2022.

“Schmigadoon!” as of today has not yet been confirmed for a second season, but we're hopeful, to say the least, like Paul!
