Dubbed 'The Gainesville Ripper,' also known as Danny Rolling, he tragically ended the lives of five students in Gainesville, Florida, over four days in August 1990. Shockingly, he later admitted to sexually assaulting several victims, committing a triple homicide in his hometown of Shreveport, Louisiana, and attempting to murder his father in May 1990. In total, Rolling confessed to the murder of eight individuals. In 1994, he was given the death penalty for the five Gainesville murders. This horrifying series of events served as the inspiration for screenwriter Kevin Williamson, who penned the script for the 1996 slasher film.

The Exorcism of Emily Rose (2005)

The plot of Emily Rose draws inspiration from the tragic tale of Anneliese Michel, a young German woman who underwent an exorcism and tragically passed away due to malnutrition and dehydration. Her parents and the priests involved faced charges of negligent homicide after her death. In Wes Craven's 1984 slasher film, the plot revolves around a killer who hunts down victims while they are asleep. Craven, in an interview with Vulture during the film's 30th anniversary, revealed that the movie's concept drew inspiration from articles in the Los Angeles Times. These articles documented the tragic deaths of young male Southeast Asian refugees who passed away in their sleep. According to reports, many men avoided sleeping due to nightmares that they believed might result in fatal consequences. Shockingly, in 1981, a total of 26 men lost their lives in their sleep due to this phenomenon.
