Once valued at over a billion dollars, Sonder, a former partner of the hospitality giant Marriott, abruptly declared bankruptcy. Known as a competitor to Airbnb, Sonder offered short-term rental and boutique hotel services in over 40 locations worldwide, from Amsterdam to Dubai. The sudden bankruptcy came in the wake of Marriott International terminating their licensing agreement with Sonder. Following the abrupt decision of Sonder Holdings to file for bankruptcy, hundreds of guests staying at these hotels were hastily evicted. Some guests were shocked to discover their belongings either stuffed into plastic bags or left in the hallways upon returning to their rooms.
