According to the decision, the maximum speed will be capped at 6 kilometers per hour. The Parliament indicated that this measure was taken in response to the recent increase in accidents involving scooters, aiming to prevent further mishaps and injuries.
Pedestrians in Slovakia will soon be subject to speed limits. This move, aimed at preventing an uptick in collisions with scooters, imposes a maximum speed of 6 km/h for pedestrians, cyclists, and scooter riders.
Parliament member Lubomir Vazyn underscored his aim of enhancing safety on sidewalks with the proposal he put forward. The speed limit for pedestrians will come into effect on January 1, 2026.
Experts indicate that the average walking speed is 45 km, while 6 km is described as a 'moderate pace'. This decision, however, sparked some backlash among certain legislators. Opposition and specialists voiced that it would be more appropriate to ban scooters on the sidewalk.
