The popular singer employed this situation to orchestrate a digital scavenger hunt, ultimately unveiling the tracklist for her new album, '1989 (Taylor's Version).'
On Tuesday, Google revealed its plan to introduce a set of 89 puzzles through its search feature, which fans can work on and eventually unveil the titles of the new songs.
'You’ll be helping Swifties around the world get out of the woods (or unlock the vault) as everyone collectively solves 33 million puzzles,' Google said. 'And that’s how it works, that’s how you get the vault track titles!'
Last month, Swift made the announcement about her forthcoming re-recording of '1989' during a performance in Los Angeles. She also disclosed that 'Taylor's Version' of the album will feature previously unreleased tracks. These vault songs have been included in all three of her re-recorded releases as an additional treat for fans who stream or purchase the albums.
Swift previously revealed vault tracks for “Fearless (Taylor’s Version)” and “Red (Taylor’s Version)” by releasing a video of scrambled letters.
The puzzle kicked off by unveiling a jumbled version of Swift's upcoming album title from the vault. As participants entered answers into the search bar, it would uncover more puzzles. However, numerous fans believe there might be a technical issue, as they're searching for answers but not experiencing any further advancement in the puzzle.
Certain fans expressed their frustration over their inability to join in or were disappointed by the substantial number of puzzle completions necessary, especially when the game was experiencing technical issues.
By late Tuesday evening, it seemed that Google had resolved the issue, and fans were able to resume the game. They continued until a staggering 33 million puzzles had been solved by Wednesday morning. Finally, a key to the vault appeared on Google's search engine, granting access to a voice note from Swift in which she announced the tracklist.
Swift sid in the message: 'Oh look, you did it!' 'You unlocked the '1989 (Taylors' Version) vault and now I am so excited to share the new vault track titles with you.'
