As you might expect, after this, the boy was rushed to the hospital. Initially suspected of being a drug addict and referred to psychiatry, his situation was actually quite different. The boy developed trauma in his forearm due to the mercury, but aside from that, he appeared to be in good health.
He had likely been inspired by comic book characters like Mercury, who can melt and solidify at will due to mercury-like blood, or Wolverine, whose bones are coated with adamantium.
Previously, he had even intentionally let a spider bite him in an attempt to become Spider-Man! Now, back to the mercury case… Tests showed that the mercury had only been injected under the skin, not into his veins. The damaged skin was removed and replaced with a thick skin graft.
The report stated, 'Other unusual cases of self-injected mercury include a 14-year-old boxer who injected metallic mercury thinking it would enhance his sports performance and individuals who believed mercury injections would improve their sexual prowess.'
