‘The Lying Life of Adults’: Plot, Trailer, Cast, Premiere Date & More Info

The Lying Life of Adults is the newest Netflix project, an adaptation of Elena Ferrante's novel of the same name. Ferrante's book 'La vita bugiarda degli adulti' in Italian was published in English in September 2020, providing film and show creators the opportunity to adapt it into a TV project.

Francesco Piccolo, Laura Paolucci, and Edoardo De Angelis grabbed the chance to co-write Ferrante's book into a TV show adaptation with the help of the original author.

Netflix revealed in May 2020 that it would adapt the series into its category in collaboration with Fandango, an Italian Production Company. The streaming platform then offered the mini-series a January 2023 release date.

Netflix's The Lying Life of Adults tells the story of one's true identity through a girl, Giovanna, transitioning from childhood to adolescence to adulthood in the 1990s. Surrounded by several transformations, Giovanna eavesdrops on her parents about her new personality and appearance, comparing her to her aunt, Vittoria, to which the mother responds, 'She is a monster.'

The incident triggers Giovanna to escape from home to meet Aunt Vittoria and find out what similarities might have made her father compare the two. Although Giovanna barely finds any satisfactory answers, her bond with her aunt grows stronger day by day. She searches for her true self in two cities with no rewards.

The Lying Life of Adults is co-written by Ferrante, Piccolo, Paulucci, and De Angelis (also director), alongside Demenicco Procacci as the chief producer and Ferran Paredes on the cinematography.

Giordana Marengo portrays Giovanna, Valeria Golino plays Aunt Vittoria, while Pina Turco and Alessandro Preziosi impersonate Giovanna's parents, Nella and Andrea, making up the main casts of the show.

Other characters include Giuseppe Brunetti (Corrado), Adriano Pantaleo (Rosario), and Luigi Chiocca (Uomo).

The Lying Life of Adults will premiere on Wednesday, January 4, 2023, as a six-episode mini-series.

Netflix has shared the official trailer on its verified Twitter account under the caption, 'When you are elite, everything seems big.'
