An armed attack was carried out on two National Guard soldiers stationed near the White House in the United States. President Donald Trump revealed that the assault was orchestrated by Rahmanullah Lakanwal, an Afghan who had fled from the Taliban to the US in 2021. Asserting that the attack was an act of terrorism, Trump vowed that all those responsible would face the harshest punishment. On the other hand, in the aftermath of the attack, immigration applications from Afghan nationals in the US were indefinitely suspended.
