The Ministry of Commerce is gearing up to ban the sale of wet wipes in supermarkets, in an effort to curb the environmental damage caused by these plastic-based products, unlike toilet papers.
The European Union, through a decision it made, had prohibited the sale of wet wipes containing plastic and non-biodegradable substances in member countries starting from January 1, 2026.
Wet wipes, along with the damage they inflict on the environment, also impose a heavy burden on sewage systems. Experts point out that half of the blockages occurring in domestic plumbing systems stem from these non-biodegradable wet wipes.
