Turkish engineer and researcher Koray Kavukçuoğlu has been serving as the head of Google's artificial intelligence department for some time. Moreover, this position was first established in June of last year, and Kavukçuoğlu was appointed as the 'Chief Technology Officer of Google DeepMind'. Upon assuming his new role, Kavukçuoğlu began working directly with Google CEO Sundar Pichai. The announcement of Kavukçuoğlu's appointment was made by Pichai himself.

The individual, who moved to London with his new assignment, did not step down from his previous role as the CTO of DeepMind. In other words, he continued to juggle both positions simultaneously. Koray Kavukçuoğlu is a graduate of the Middle East Technical University (METU), where he studied Aerospace Engineering. He continued his postgraduate studies in the same department before moving to the United States. There, he pursued a master's degree and subsequently a doctorate in Computer Science at New York University. During his doctoral studies, he had the privilege of being mentored by Yann LeCun, a pioneer in artificial intelligence technologies at NYU.

Between the years of 1999 and 2003, Kavukçuoğlu worked as an engineer at Roketsan. Following this, he gained experience through internships at Siemens, NEC Laboratories America, and Google. In November 2012, he joined the team at Google DeepMind.

As of January 2024, Kavukçuoğlu took on the role of Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at Google DeepMind. In June of the same year, he was promoted to the position of Google's Chief Artificial Intelligence Architect.
